on my portable installation, the function wfile(2) fails to work and complains about illegal characters in the path name.
Are there known problems with settings directories with spaces or whatever in the path name?

It seems that the contents of the variable is totally irrelevant.

The issue states in the double quotes (forbidden character). If I remember correctly these functions have never worked with strings, only undefined variables (not sure if by design).
