Option to choose paper format even if no printer for the format is installed

 Description

I don't have a real printer now. I have a label printer installed only able to print labels 6-24mm wide. When I want to create a new worksheet I can only select paper formats my printer is able to print which is maximum 24mm wide. You dont' produce nice results with this narrow pages.

Of course, the selection of a paper format should be independant of what the currently installed printer(s) are/is able to print. You should be able to choose all the international, north american and japanese paper formats. (BTW, are there russian formats too?) One may never physically print worksheets. Another user may install the appropriate printer later on - specially with USB. Smath Studio should work nonetheless.

Reminder: Adjustable default page settings for new documents would be highly welcome (just as proposed: Use as default button in the page settings dialog)

Ok, my proposal is:

  1. Add "Use by default" button on "Page Setup" dialog;
  2. Allow selecting paper size even if no printer installed.

After thinking a little longer about the problem I think the solution is to give the user the ability to choose a template file. Similar to normal.dot in MS word. So the page format would be a document/template property, not a printer property.

So you could include a custom header and footer and maybe a default title format in this template.

That is true, however if the default printer is able to produce letter format you always get letter as default. Each time I create a new worksheet I have to change paper format manually. The best workaround for the moment would be to install a virtual printer and modify it so that A4 is the only paper format and make this the default printer. But I do not want wo write my own printer driver just to use Smath Studio. And I do not want this virtual printer as my default.

Again: The selection of a paper format should be independant of what the currently installed printer(s) are/is able to print.

You always can install a virtual PDF printer like PDF24 creator. However, don't use this for actual printing. The export to pdf (file> save as) feature produces much better results at the cost of much larger file size (2MB instead of 300k).
