If you paste a special character like ® into a string, then it seems that nothing happens. However, if you leave the region, you see that the characters were indeed inserted. If you type normal characters, the effect is immediately visible.
BTW, the operation of pasting something into a string seems to be out of history record. If you type Ctrl-Z, then the pasted string remains and some other previous operation is undone.
