In 2019, the Backrooms concept was born as a viral creepypasta on 4chan. An anonymous user uploaded a photograph of a drab, yellow hallway with stained carpets and flickering lights. The Backrooms were described in the accompanying text as a Backrooms Game place that one "noclips" into, a glitch in reality, and from which it is virtually impossible to escape once inside. This uncomplicated image ignited the internet's imagination, resulting in the creation of innumerable stories, videos, and, ultimately, video games.
