Is it possible to have Smath or SMath with a plugin solve the attached equation (either numerically or symbolically)?

You must simplify/explicit/plot ...
the Smath native solve bloc will accept your demand.

I don't understand the equation: f(x)-P.r = 0
How do you know that this is true?
