Calculation menu query - Menu items are greyed-out - Messages

Hi. I've just installed Smath and have started playing with it. I'm very familiar with older versions of Mathcad, so the interface seems nice and familiar.
I'm trying to understand how to use the tools in the Calculation menu. Nothing I do seems to un-grey the Solve, Calculate, Simplify, Invert, Differentiate, or Determinant functions therein.
I tried creating a simple expression, x^2 - 5 = 0, then selecting the x and pulling down the Calculation menu, but the "Solve" entry is greyed-out.
So am I not thinking about this properly, or missed a step, or something else...?
Thanks in advance for any help.
EDIT: Never mind, I've figured it out; The variable needs to be selected/highlighted, not just selected. D'OH!

Hello, "concitoyen" !
"Samples" is a repository to visit. It's where I plug all
my Mathcad stuff . BTW: how did you get the "unifolié" in
the Groups. Mine has never appeared and don't know how to plug it.
I mean my Canadian flag !
Smath is not a 1/1 Mathcad, just a parent.

Hi Jean,
I don't think I did anything special to make the flag appear. I simply selected my location when it was an option during the user registration process. I believe it can be modified if you edit your profile.
Cheers,
gn
