Given that Mono integration with SMath is problematic, at least the current versions available in repositories,
I suggested the developer to provide Mono compiled to run SMath. Please see this posts:

He may also want to prepare some PPA (Personal Package Archives) to install via Launchpad.
Something like what Darktable offers in their install page.
