personalise SMath - Modifying default values of a "new document" permanently - Messages

Hi there,
I'm using SMath in Germany, so I like to use the paper-size A4 instead of letter.
In addition I like to change / add some things to a "new document" permanently:
- gravity-constant g = 9,81 m/s^2 is missing
- the pressure should be shown in N/mm^2 instead of Pa
- the accuracy of the values have to displayed with 2 digits only.
So, is there any global template, that is loaded when starting SMath Studio? Or are all those adjustments fixed in the SMath-Code itself?
If so, would'nt it be nice to have a global template placed in the program-directory where erveryone could personalize their SMath-Studio startups, shtat is loaded, when starting SMath?
Looking forward to hopefully get some hints.

File > Page Setup > Size > A4 (unfortunately you have to setup this every time you create a new document)
Gravity constant is ge, because g is for "gram".
If you prefer "g", you can always set g:=ge at the top of your worksheet.
Output values are in base units [N/m^2] -> Pa; you can set the output unit in the rightmost placeholder (wiki);
There is a proposal in the BTS (SS-1) to have default measurement system, you can vote it.
Global: Tools > Options > Calculation > decimal places (will be set as default for new documents)
Local: right click on the math region > decimal places

Damned weird your formulation output is in such a small unit [Pa]
but you want in quite high pressure unit N/mm^2 = 10 bar.
Before your result, define the UnitResult ...N/mm^2:=1
multiply your result by 0.000001, in the free place holder,
just copy/paste your definition N/mm^2.

Hello,
Engineers in Europe use most of the time N/mm^2 to display stresses (bending, tensile, etc) in materials.
Hint: for faster typing you can also use "MPa" !
A template or .ini file would indeed be appreciated for default settings like paper size, just like you can set the default number of decimal places.

Hello,
at first let me say thanks for all the given informations.
Just a question: Why is the earth-gravity-constant named g.e, when it is possible to name a variable/constant in the same way like a unit. So the could be a g:=9,81 'm/'s^2 and a unit 'g called gram....
Of course I noticed some of the given hints already by myself. What I was trying to say is what csb531 posted when speaking of an "inf"-file.
To be sure that the file is readable on every SMath-installation the given informations have to be stored within the SMath-file instead of an external INF-file.
Everything would be easy, if SMath uses an template like the "normal.dotm" in word. Then the user can open an empty sheet, make his decisions and settings, and then
save this file to a new template.
Maybe someone is ansering my prayers ;-)

Many things are not clear. When closing an *.sm all the pertaining
settings are stored [highlight region, numeric/symbolic, equations
all the maths ...]
G is the gravitational constant
ge or go is the earth gravity acceleration [gravitational acceleration]
g is gram
g is user unit of acceleration for any form of acceleration.

2 decimals display and export is user preference, BUT
you SHALL carry full accuracy all along the work sheet.
Naturally, there are exception [image processing ...]

maybe as a work-around, you could create a small smath file with your preferred settings and save it as your default starting file.
Everytime you want to create a new file, you start by opening this file, rename it, save it and edit it.

That's what Mathcad 11 had "Template". Something puzzles me.
In the main Smath installed directory, click on "Settings.inf"
There is a pile of information and all the Smath work sheets +++
num, integral iterations, decimal separator ...
I wonder if from that "sttings" it's possible to set the default
6 decimals to whatever you want as a kind of "Template" or if it
is just dead to see ?

I'm interested in this feature as well. I've used Mathcad extensively and now I've been using SMath for a few weeks at work. I have saved a file that I can copy but it takes a few extra seconds and clicks to open that where setting a template file like in mathcad would be advantageous and time-saving. Thanks for providing this great software as opensource, it's great.
