This one is not nice ! It may reflect on other of this kind
[Hermite ...] from the documentation. 5346 was OK .

... Ah ! this damned bug is isolated, but no cure.
Was OK 5346 ! Now dead 6179.

Was OK 5346 but not 6179.
At least it is isolated.

Hello Jean,
Seems the crash it is related with the name of the iterator argument of sum().
Until is not fixed you can cure it by renaming k in either one of L(x,n) or the for loop (move on the variable k, press F8 and rename it at once), then you can evaluate safely.

Thanks Davide: it evaluates.
But the nice symbolic evaluation can't be assigned as expanded.
So, for the coefficients and polyroots we are forced to copy/paste.
Not convenient for n > 4
Up until now: Smath 6179 does not accept Legendre as companion.
This "bug" of impossible isolation reflects on the "numden".
Was working great 5346 but not anymore 6179. I understand why
the collab from Russia asked several times about "numden".
My nice western 5346 turned red over east !!!
Legendre plots for any 'n'. For the roots and weigth: from the web.
