non-evaluating "=" - I want to be able to enter non-functional formulas with "=" symbol - Messages

I couldn't see how to make formulas just for documentation purposes, that have an "=" symbol in them.

My son needed to be able to enter his algebra, and print/typeset it, separately from the computing parts of the document.

I think that symbolic formulas are using the arrow, which means they done print like a formulas having an "=" symbol.

Am I making sense? Any ideas?

This is what I was trying last night, and it sometime work, and othertimes refuse to let me. So I had to delete it all. Now its working. Grrr
