Structural Shape Property Extractor Plugin - Errors in SectPROP() Function - Messages
#1 Posted: 8/30/2021 12:12:42 AM
I'm a structural engineer and a new SMath user. I was pretty excited when I found the "Structural Shape Property Extractor". It is very useful for obtaining properties of most of the shapes in the AISC manual. However, for me, any shape with a period (.) or a forward slash (/) says "the shape does not exist". This takes our most "L" shapes and "HSS" shapes as well as others. I have emailed the programmer but have not received a response.
Is anyone else using this plugin and getting this error?
Are there other tools/solutions that engineers are using for getting shape properties?
Any help is appreciated.
Thank you

It is not clear which plugin you mean. This may not be a bug, but normal behavior. Unfortunately, not all plugins are supported by the authors and it will take a while to find out what is wrong.
Give a link to an example that doesn't work or attach it to your post.

Viacheslav,
Thank you for your reply.
The plugin is called "Structural Shape Property Extractor" in the plugins menu. It's listed as "AISC Shape Property Extractor" on the download page (link below). I'm including the pluging guide as well as a calc sheet with some of the examples I believe are not working properly.
AISC Shape Property Extractor Link
AISC Shape Property Extractor Guide.sm (29 KiB) downloaded 98 time(s).
Property Extratctor Examples.sm (8 KiB) downloaded 76 time(s).
Property Extratctor Examples.pdf (69 KiB) downloaded 105 time(s).
Thank you for your time.

I have not found sources for this plugin. They are not contained in the version control system. I tried to decompile the plugin, but the source code is written in vb.net, which is difficult to recover. To fix it, you need to get the original sources. Otherwise, it is necessary to modify the result of decompilation in C#.

Thank you for looking into it for me. I was hoping that there was something I was doing wrong or it was an easy fix. I'm not familiar enough with programming to dive into it right now so I'll just have to live without it at the moment. Perhaps I'll try contacting the programmer once more.

I asked Andrey to update the plugin. The source codes are not publicly available.

Hi. The attached have the AISC table as SMath matrices and vectors.
AISC.sm (6 MiB) downloaded 96 time(s).
Best regards.

Hi. Notice that to really replace the plugin with the above file, it would be convenient to make two changes: First, save only the collapsed areas with the data in a file, since using them directly in the document where the calculations are carried out would be very inefficient given the large size of the matrix with the data. Then add a vector with the units of each property. In this way, in the document where the structure calculations are carried out, the file with the data can be referenced with the include() function.
Best regards.
Alvaro.
