I am using the same SMath version but Win XP SP3 and cannot duplicate the crash you describe. If I follow your steps a get (a+b)!= and depending upon if a and b would have been assigned values either an error a sof "a" being unknown or the correct numeric result.

Thanks, You are right, there is a bug in the bug report. Must be a*b instead of a+b.

after a*b typing space extends the underline cursor to the expression a*b. When you then type !, the underline shrinks to b! and typing = causes the crash.

Bug seems to be fixed, cannot reproduce it any more in 0.97.5189.
