Download/Instal 5935 - Download/Install 5935 - Messages
2MB user interface working from associated plugins [total size 5346 = 235 MB].
Version 5346 runs on XP SP3, works fine as 5346 was stable, and unmodified.
I will "NEVER" switch to other Windows OS .
1. Does 5935 run on XP SP3 ?
2. If YES: I would evaporate 5346 from PC and download all the 5935 components.
3. Plug everything in the program file and click to install.
4. Run each one of my 400 Smath work sheets [few days job].
5. QUESTIONS: Will 5935 run 5346 work sheets ? i.e: backward compatibility?
6. If NOT: Will it be possible to "RESTRORE 5346" [hopefully YES], to be confirmed.
7. Smath 5346 'solve' is fine, Smath 5346 'Solve' does not work !
8. Which of the 5935 plugins will not work ? Here, I understand that the plugins
maintainers provide fix/update as replacement, from the forum only [no otherwise
e-mail notification].
Looks attractive to update from 5346 to 5935 but risky from reading comments in this forum. From what I see here in this image are the MISSING step by step instructions:
1. How to evaporate Smath version previous to 5935 ?
2. How to install 5935
The procedure to evaporate I would attempt is quite standard:
a\. Uninstall 5346 from XP Uninstall program
b\. Delete all Smath 5346 folders from "Program File".
c\. There is no Smath to remove from the "registry.
Maths is not something one reads in diagonal, Smath as well when it comes
to "Update" or run new version. I will gladely read comments from actual 5935 users
that have switched from previous version and running fine all their work sheets
created in previous Smath version(s).
AND: no reply to the request for more than 5 messages when opening the forum.
Just answer either: not possible or "YES soon".... there is an answer not answered!
See what I meant from the "Download Smath Studio" ... missing instructions !
WroteWroteThe error message is "s - not defined". It's bothering me, because of I've used the functions in several documents.
It is because of the following string (in two places):
Starting from SMath Studio 0.98 application handles calculation parts from left to right when no other rules to follow. And it became a rule now which will remain the same in future. So you just need to change places for 1-st and 3-rd operations in your matrix:
Sorry for this, but before 0.98 order of operations in such cases was not actually strictly defined.
Don't lock yourself in. Your too valuable of a collab to be hampered with some of the progress. As a suggestion, grab your existing files ... SMath and plugins and put into an archive. Then install new version of SMath. Fix the few "breaks" and your golden. You answering and opening sheets built with newer versions of SMath already.
WroteDoes 5935 run on XP SP3?
Yes. I've tested it before release.
WroteWill 5935 run 5346 work sheets ? i.e: backward compatibility?
Yes. I have a huge library of the worksheets and I use them to test backward compatibility before releasing of a new version.
WroteSmath 5346 'solve' is fine, Smath 5346 'Solve' does not work !
Please use http://smath.info/bts/ to report bugs. We using it to collect reports and fix them one by one. I'm not a magician - errors are possible, but I do everything I can to make number of errors as small as possible.

You are right. It is my fault. It must be some wizard shown to check installed plug-ins and to instruct user about what to do to fix known issues. I will work on it.
WroteHow to install 5935
It doesn't matter if you do a fresh install of SMath Studio or make an update - you should not have any instructions. All you need is provided by UI of MSI installer. That is it.
If there is anything unclear, I should fix it! There is nothing to discuss actually.

Totally wrong. You should not uninstall old version, delete any folders or registry keys. MSI installer of newer SMath Studio version always do these actions for you by itself. Just follow the wizard. Again, if anything goes bad, please report it, so I will be able to do appropriate corrections.
Best regards.

VM would be even slower, but for me, that would be worth it.
Of course, another real PC would be even better, if that is realistic.

My 5th PC would do, virgin of Smath, but actually being doctored .

My way of testing new releases of SM is as follows:
For reasons of portabiliy I am using since years the "inofficial" portable version proposed by my namesake Martin Kraska.
This way all SM-files are stored in the SM-working directory (plugins, settings etc.)and nothing in any Windows subdirectory.
All you need is an empty file called portable.version in your SM_working directory.
@Andrey: Unfortunately this trick still does not work on my Linux system! : there the files are still stored in some hidden systemdirectory

Anyway, on windows:
1. just copy the whole working SM-directory of your old "portable" version to a new one.
2. download and unpack the LINUX .tar.gz file of the new release and overwrite all existing files in your newly created directory.
Now you have two different active versions (with identical settings and plugins) which can simply be starded by doubleclick on the appropriate icon.
Martin
WroteNow you have two different active versions
Quite right Martin: two different versions but two micmack versions.
Visit "MicMack" Amerindians from Wkipedia. micmack became a french word
for "mixed up things"...nearly => Floccinaucinihilipilification.
I have two icons to open Smath 5346. One opens a non installed Smath
directly from C:\ Smath+Maxima and one that opens installed Smath from
C:\Program Files. Their diretory are same top to botom, all items.
Do they work the same in Smath work sheets ? ANSWER: NO
What's different in quick explore once in work sheet
1. from the uninstalled C:\ ... it has => Numeric up-down, Slider,
severals "Ridder" roots solve but does not have the long series
of functions "mw...." where you get Bessel ++++
2. from the installed C:\Program files
has: the advanced "mw..." functions
Does not have: Numeric up-down, slider, no "Ridder" roots solve.
I did not dare install the C:\ Smath+Maxima being scared to lose
some of its specifics. This version does not open the work sheet
direcly unlike C:\Pogram Files. I has a drop down panel asking
"Do you want to run this software ?" YES, done, work sheet with
its supplementary and missing features.
My latest "Legendre Quadrature [Reconciliation]" from last night
has the Numeric up-down just to be more didactic. Otherwise my
work sheets are all [if not] classical from the installed
C:\ Program Files\Smath Studio.
What I don't understand is why the installed C:\Program Files
did not install the complete plugins, i.e: the complete system.
To that question some might reply: zap the plugin you don't use.
The plugins idea is great while Smath results from volontary
collaboration in evolution. Mathcad 11 was the same, not from
Plugins, but from "subcontracts", they were unified thus enabling
Mathcad 11 to be like semi-compiled when installing, thus making
Mathcad 11 " bomb compute" vs Smath.
More I don't understand:
2014-11-16 [Smath Studio 0.97.5346 ...Maxima 5.34.1]
Welcome to the portable distribution of SMath Studio with Maxima
- ready to use SMath Studio with most of the available plugins installed
- Maxima installation included and Maxima plugin configured.
What portable means ? to me it means it works from "ports"
"from ports" ??? from WIFI . My laptop [one meter away] runs same
Smath than the PC I'm posting this message.
Cheers Martin, have a good day.
Jean
PS: This forum is "damned well done" ! Wile replying your post
I can read what you just wrote. Just missing more than 5 cumulative
posts when opening the main forum. How many are missed while in bed ?

This can't be true. All systemfiles of the official windows installation (C:Program Files) should be in a directory called something like this:
C:\Users\YOUR NAME\AppData\Roaming\SMath
On the "portable" installation the corresponding files are in the working directory. I.e. all plugins etc. must be installed separately for both versions. The LINUX_file contains no third party plugins, they must be installed/updated inside portable SM via plugin manager.
Your portable directory must contain its own system files i.e. the complete subdirectory "extensions".
P.S. Current Maxima plugin does not work on my Windows 10 system.

WroteP.S. Current Maxima plugin does not work on my Windows 10 system.
Martin
That was reported before, from recollection => doctored.
Lots of Maxima are "... forcibly closed by the remote host"
Reported many times what it means => answer lost in the wind.
If you have the X_Y plot, you have a bit of Maxima
If you have "solve", another bit of Maxima...
