I'm cleaning up calculations and files from a corrupted HDD (The backup to the backup was saved corrupted). As I went back to re-use a previously checked calculation I noticed that I used an old "in-bedded" version of a snippet. I cannot recall or find the proper way of "linking" the snippet file using the snippet manager. I would like to set up a "relative path link". I know there are those (ahem Jean) who are adamant about keeping the file "traceable", but the truth is, Snippets are supposed to help keep things consistent. If I find an issue, update the snippet and all future calculations and updates will use the latest and greatest. No different that updating/upgrading software and still gets QC'd
In my case, a 2 degree F adjustment to be "proper", per the standard, in the snippet, re-aligned motor HP. Project is now able to non-overload select multiple smaller HP motors (i.e. 100 HP vs 125 HP and 225 HP vs. 250 HP.)
Client is happy that this was found and is being cross checked by the EOR as there is a significant life cycle savings as well as some capital cost savings involved (I am the 3rd party independent reviewer).
Yes, I can re-paste the Snippet on every calculation as I re-use them, but that is not efficient use of time or recources if the computer can automatically do this.
