There is not an internal simplify/expand ability of Smath.
However, you can use maxima or maple plugins for this purpose.

Great,

Thank you both.

What I need is a symbolic simplification solution, so Maple and Maxima seem to fit perfectly.

I have been able to run Maxima, under Linux, on its own, but not as a plugin for SMath. I prefer the formatting of equations in Smath, therefore it would be great to have both working together. I have not found how to do it under Linux. Is it possible ?

Maple plugin can be used under linux with wineconsole + a script file + renaming + symbolic link.
Check forum page extensions > maple plugin, I have put some instructions over there.

Maxima plugin cannot be used under linux, yet. I couldn't make it work as it is.
I had to open my windows pc to show you expand command with maxima plugin.

Not clear what would be great,
Smath is delivered c/w maple wrapper.
Propose more advanced functions for symbolic.

Few more Engineering Projects can be offered.
Maple Demo attached is pure maths.
Cheers ... Jean
