If I understood correctly;
You want your units in combobox as it is intended on your matrix.
Well, that is not possible without alterations at the moment.
Actually, if you want an item appear in your combobox, it is common practice to use it as strings.
Using variable as it is can cause your problem, units with its base versions. (m for mm, kg for g, etc)
Outcome of the combobox can be another column as you will see in example below.
You can do it with two ways. You either insert a string column manually.
And you make a new automated matrix (or write over on desired matrix) with string column.
Below there is your example for manual and automated methods.
I have included settings of combobox in their corresponding screenshot.

If you want the genuine appearance of the units, make use of the expression parsing capabilities of Davides plugins:

Generation of the list could be automated but that would not be worth the effort for only a few entries.
