For folks who have used both SMath and MathCAD for engineering, what functionality have you found missing from SMath that you used in MathCAD? I'm testing SMath as a possible alternative to MathCAD for creating structural engineering calculations. So far the only limitations I have found is the max(x,y)= function doesn't work and I can't seem to be able to adjust the font.

I liked the formatting styles in Mathcad. You could define headings, text etc. I don't really remember MathCAD crashed or did miscalculations but both can happen with Smath. On the other hand Mathcad is ways too expenxive for what it does (slightly more than my TI-89). It is not developed anymore but still they charge 1000$ for the maintenance contract each year each floating license.

Thank you brotjob, can you give me an example of the miscalculations you're describing? I’m attempting to create a smaller complete calc in SMath. It hasn’t crashed but the miscalculations have me worried.

Is there a way to make it default to displaying Imperial units when it calculates the results of an equation?

See the plugins extensions, there are workarounds for these issues. In Custom Functions plugin there are Max() and Min functions that accepts multiple values as input; Text Region Utilities allows you to change fonts of Text Regions. A new region that supports natively advanced text formatting is under development.

As for now not, even if the developer says that will be implemented.
If you like my plugins please consider to support the program buying a license; for personal contributions to me: paypal.me/dcprojects
