Hello Andrey,
I am a very big fan of you and I would like to thank you for the wonderful sMath Studio software. You have done a fantastic job with this app and it is very useful to many people.
You used to include a portable version with each release, but the new releases do not have the portable any more. As you know Windows 8 does not include .Net Framework 2.0 any more, so it is not available on all computers.
If you can release the portable version it will be very helpful. Even if you release one portable version that works with the new .sm format files that would be great.
If I save a file with sMath version 0.97.5346, the older portable versions will not open it. So if you release at least one portable version which can work with the new format, that would be great.
Once again, thank you very much for this wonderful app, which is helping many people, including your number one fan, me.

In Windows 8/8.1 the framework 3.5 (that is an extension of the 2.0) is installed but not enabled. You should enable it following these instructions: Installing the .NET Framework 3.5 on Windows 8 or 8.1
If you like my plugins please consider to support the program buying a license; for personal contributions to me: paypal.me/dcprojects

Thank you user for your directions for .Net, but a portable version is still much more useful. For example if you want to show people your calculations on somebody else's computer and that other person does not have .Net installed, then you can not run it. But if it is portable, you can always carry sMath with you on a flash drive.

Well, since end of august, the current portable version is 0.97.5346.
You can download it here Unofficial portable distribution with Maxima

Thank you very much user fdufnews. The unofficial portable version is very good and it really helps.
However, the unofficial version will not run on a computer without the .Net Framework 2.0 installed and is so it is not completely portable.
The official portable versions which Andrey used to release did not need .Net Framework 2.0 and were completely portable and ran on any computer.
I wish Andrey would release at least one more portable version which would run the new .sm format files.
By the way, what is Maxima?
Thanks again everybody for all your help.

Maxima is a free computer algebra program. It can solve algebraic and differential equations and integrate symbolically. There is a plugin which brings the power of Maxima to SMath Studio. You find multiple examples in the interactive handbook, which is part of the unofficial portable distribution (see link in the signature of this mail)

One of my student experience a strange problem under win 8.1: the sm association to smath is lost and smath does not know sm files any more in the open and save dialogs. It just knows the formats from external plugins, see screenshot. This behaviour has developed spontaneously without any apparent reason.
