E.g. enable sign of operation
S3(n-2), I want the 3(n-2) to be the subscript

You already can, use CTRL+K whenever you have special characters.
f.e. type
S -> YourSubscriptSymbol -> 3 -> CTRL+K -> (n-2)
f.e. type
S -> YourSubscriptSymbol -> 3 -> CTRL+K -> (n-2)
