3D Graphics orientation problem - BTS issue SS-32 - Messages

Hello,
I played around with 3D graphics and was constantly facing alignment problems. In the graph below I would expect the parabolic surface to open towards the z axis. Tested with 0.91 and 0.95. The sheet is completely empty except the given graphics region.

Dynamic rotation gives me the impression that the axis triad is left handed, but it is not easy to tell and I may be wrong.
On top of this, the graph does not keep alignment upon save/open file.
May be, this is a known bug. At least, I did not find corresponding posts in the english forum and the wiki gives me the impression that everything should work fine.
B.t.w, the search function leads to some old discussions whether 3D graphic functions should be cared for at all (including statemets like that 3D is worthless for engineers and just a dangerous distraction from the real stuff).
@Andrey: What is the current state: Are the users supposed to rely on 3D and report bugs if they find some or is that just waste of time and annoying to you?
Best regards, Martin Kraska

Hello, Martin.
It's not annoying for me. Feel free to report any bug you've found. Earlier or later I'll fix them all
Yes, I know about these bugs (and about some others related to 3d graphs). Unfortunately it's hard to fix them (I tried to work on them couple of times) and for now I have no enough time for this stuff.
Best regards.

OK, thanks, I'll keep hands off 3D for a while. World's first bug-free software is worth any patience ;-)

Hi,
meanwhile I saw that the update button in the Graphics panel re-aligns the 3D plot objects and the co-ordinate axis objects. Even if that has the side effect of resetting the view (zoom, pan, orientation) the alignment is kept upon subsequent interactive view changes such that one is able to obtain sensible plots.
However, as soon as the graph is recalculated, the alignment is lost again. Also, when loading the file, the axes are mis-aligned and you have to re-adjust the graphs individually to reproduce the screen shot.
The screen shot shows that the co-ordinate system is definitely left handed. I'd vote for a change here.
Best regards, Martin

Hi, I am familiar with the Plot3D plugin and I have found that the graphs do not coalesce with the coordinate axes.
Is there any error defining the coordinate matrix?
According to the web help a 3D graphic should be presented as the following ..

Dibujo 3D.sm (81 KiB) downloaded 27 time(s).
When I define it in Smath 0.98 (Build 6128), the result is the following ..

I appreciate comments

It is possible to apply the method

1.sm (18 KiB) downloaded 46 time(s).

Confirmed (but the plugin is Plot Region by Andrey Ivashov, not 3D plot region)
