For anyone curious. I ended up fixing an empty tag for this particular area title to have an explicit start and end tag. I don't know enough about the SMath parser to know why this is a problem. I didn't try deleting it.

If you have an editor that supports syntax highlighting for xml is easier, usually you can collapse blocks of code and you can spot where something is wrong. You can try to check yourself using programs such as notepad++ or visual studio code.
